Help us Debrief the Open Enrollment Period in Ohio
April 24, 2014
Because of Get Covered America – Ohio volunteers like you, we helped hundreds of thousands of Ohioans and over 10 million Americans #GetCovered!
Now that Open Enrollment is officially over, it’s time to look back, reflect, and plan where we go from here. Come to one of our Getting Ohio Covered Debriefs to give us feedback on our journey so far and help us shape our next chapter together.
Be a Fellow in Ohio
April 23, 2014
About the Fellowship
Fellows for Get Covered America will work closely with staff, volunteers, and partners to get uninsured Ohioans up to speed on the opportunity to enroll in affordable, quality health insurance made available by the Affordable Care Act.
All fellows will talk with consumers about the opportunity to enroll in new health coverage options made available by the Affordable Care Act, recruit and train volunteers, and collaborate with partners to get the word out about the new health coverage options. While all fellows will share core responsibilities, fellows will also have the opportunity to gain more advanced skills by participating one five program tracks:
Enrollment Assistance – fellows will work directly with consumers who need health coverage to walk them through the application process in a one on one setting. This is a great opportunity for candidates who have great interpersonal skills, are comfortable with technology and health policy, and are passionate about expanding access to health coverage to all Ohioans.
Grassroots Organizing – fellows will communicate with consumers about their new health coverage options, recruit and train volunteers on how to communicate with consumers about their new health coverage options, and collaborate with partners to conduct outreach and in-reach. This is a great opportunity for candidates who are strong communicators, and passionate about expanding access to health coverage.
Data & Special Projects – fellows will help our team conduct research, generate lists and reports to help guide outreach, create internal memos and resources for staff, and assist with other projects. This is a great opportunity for candidates with strong analytical and logical skills and strong written communications skills.
Communications & Digital Organizing – fellows will help develop each state’s social media presence; collect stories; draft and edit press releases, advisories, talking points and statements; etc. This is a great opportunity for candidates with strong writing skills, and experience using Twitter and other social media services.
Constituency Outreach and Partner Engagement – fellows will work with partners and key community institutions to do outreach to specific populations such as community college students, faith communities, small businesses, etc. Fellows will also regularly work with consumers and volunteers. This is a great opportunity for candidates who have strong ties to a particular community and an interest in working with diverse partners, volunteers, and consumers.
This is an unpaid position. Applications are requested by August 31. After August 31 applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis. Click here to apply.

A Chance to Build Skills and Help Texas Get Ahead
Are you someone who hopes to make a difference? Like to learn and grow as a leader, while spending time with a group of passionate, talented people who can help you learn some new skills? Then we have the perfect opportunity: become a summer fellow for Get Covered America. When you do, you’ll be gaining valuable work experience and joining the state’s leading movement to help Texans’ leading healthier, more financially secure lives.
Our fellowship program is a structured, elite learning and volunteerism program that’s part of the national Get Covered America Campaign. Fellows get a chance to help on the ground here in Texas, working with seasoned staff to build their skills here in the state with the highest rate of uninsured and, thus, the greatest need for good people like you! At the same time, you’ll be benefiting from a national network that offers a series of top-notch weekly trainings, progressive skill-building, opportunities to lead and master a project on your own, and access to a learning community of peers across the country.
We have two fellowship tracks in Texas:
Organizing Fellows will communicate with consumers about their new health coverage options, recruit and train volunteers on how to communicate with consumers about their new health coverage options, work with data, and collaborate with partners to conduct outreach and in-reach. This is a great opportunity for candidates who are interested in developing management skills and gaining real world experience in running campaigns. Candidates who are strong communicators and passionate about expanding access to health coverage; who have ties to a particular community and an interest in working with diverse partners, volunteers, and/or consumers; and/or who have a strong understanding of data management are a great fit for the fellows program.
Communications & Digital Organizing Fellows will help develop the Texas team’s social media presence; collect stories; draft and edit press releases, advisories, talking points, blog posts, and statements; and work with reporters. This is a great opportunity for candidates with strong writing skills and experience using Twitter and other social media.

It’s Not Too Late!
April 4, 2014
Great news, everyone! If you tried to sign up for health insurance by the March 31st deadline but you weren’t able to, you might still be able to get covered.
Some people ran into some problems. Maybe HealthCare.gov wasn’t working or the call center was swamped. Maybe you couldn’t get in-person help or an enrollment event was full.
If you or someone you know experienced any of those problems, you should still be able to get covered during the grace period (which ends April 15th, so act now!).
Over 7 million people got covered already. If you don’t get covered before the grace period ends, you’ll have to wait until November to sign up. And you might get stuck with a fine. No one wants that!
