From Barber Shops to Columbus Pride, Outreach Blitz to Cover Ohio

Statewide “Weekend of Action” events kick off small business program in Ohio.

COLUMBUS, OH – On the One Year Anniversary of the Get Covered America campaign in Ohio, Get Covered America is launching a new program to educate uninsured Ohioans on their new health options by partnering with local small businesses, as part of a statewide “Weekend of Action.”

This weekend, Get Covered America will partner with local small businesses across Ohio to hold tabling events to educate and train customers and employees. Local business will also host drop boxes so customers can give their contact information to organizers to personally follow up with them with enrollment information. In Cincinnati, staff and volunteers will be reaching out to small businesses in Woodlawn with information on the Affordable Care Act, and in Cleveland, staff and volunteers will be reaching out to small businesses in Shaker Square, Lee Harvard, Edgewater. In addition, Get Covered America staff and volunteers will be holding tabling events at Columbus Pride and the Juneteenth celebration in Columbus to reach out to Ohioans about their new health care options.

“Small businesses are not only the backbone of our economy, but are also trusted voices in the community,” said Trey Daly, Get Covered America Ohio State Director. “That’s why now and in the coming months, we will partner with local small businesses to educate the uninsured on topics like Medicaid, Special Enrollment Periods, financial help, and in-person assistance. By working with small business owners, Get Covered America will continue to play a key role in connecting Ohioans with the information they need to understand their health care options and get covered.”

Over the last year, the Get Covered America campaign in Ohio reached out directly to more than 84,000 consumers; engaged more than 2,600 volunteers and more than 200 partner organizations; and held over 2,000 events to reach out to consumers. Even though open enrollment for private coverage ended on March 31st, Get Covered America isn’t slowing down on our outreach – making sure consumers know Medicaid and CHIP enrollment is year-round and they may be eligible for a special enrollment period if they’ve had a qualifying life event.

To get information about health coverage options or help with enrollment Ohioans can call our offices in Cleveland (216-314-2392), Cincinnati (513-667-2304), and Columbus (614-636-0385) or visit our website https://www.getcoveredamerica.org/.

Enroll America Statement on Release of HHS Affordability Report

Enroll America Statement on Release of HHS Affordability Report

New report shows Ohioans average premium rate per month dropped after tax credits.

COLUMBUS, OH – Today, Enroll America State Director Trey Daly released the following statement in response to a new report released by Health and Human Services finding that Ohioans paid an average premium of $111 per month after tax credits for silver plans in the Marketplace in 2013-2014 and 52% of enrollees who selected Marketplace plans with tax credits had premiums of $100 a month or less.

“Today’s report shows that the Affordable Care Act is working to help Ohioans find quality, affordable health coverage. It’s great news that more than half of Ohioans who enrolled in coverage through the Marketplace found plans with premiums of $100 or less with financial assistance. We’ve known all along that affordability was motivating factor for consumers to enroll and that 84% of Ohioans who enrolled in coverage through the Marketplace received financial assistance. That’s why we will continue to educate and reach out to Ohioans about the availability of financial assistance to help them successfully enroll in a plan that fits their budget.”

Special Enrollment Period

Are you still without health insurance? You may still have an opportunity to get covered! While the open enrollment period to enroll in health insurance is now closed, there is still an opportunity to enroll in health coverage for many New Jersey residents. If you have recently experienced a life changing event you could be eligible to enroll in health insurance during the Special Enrollment Period (SEP) which is happening right now! A life changing event that may make you eligible in insurance today can include the following life events:

  • Marriage or Divorce
  • Birth or adoption of a childSEP Photo
  • Change of career
  • Loss of other job-based health coverage
  • Change in income
  • Move to a different state
  • And many others!

The great news is that you also may be eligible for financial assistance. In fact, 84 percent of New Jerseyans who have enrolled in coverage through the Marketplace received financial help!

If you need more help understanding what defines a “life event” please check out this new tool at https://www.healthcare.gov/screener/. CMS created this new screening tool to help consumers like you find out if they are eligible for coverage during the special enrollment period or if they are eligible for Medicaid and or CHIP (which offer enrollment year-round). The screener tool is also available in Spanish.

NOTE! Individuals who have experienced a qualifying life event MUST enroll in health insurance 60 DAYS after the event has occurred or they will no longer be eligible. If you neglect to enroll within those 60 days, you must wait until Nov 15 when the next open enrollment period begins

Enroll America New Jersey’s team is here to provide information, support, and connect you with free, professional help to assist you in enrolling. To reach out to our staff and find local help in your neighborhood visit GetCoveredAmerica.org. For Spanish speaking residents visit GetCoveredAmerica.org/es .

How Enroll America found, persuaded thousands to sign up for insurance

An article was published in the Star Ledger, one of NJ’s largest newspapers, highlighting the hard work that our organization did in communities across Jersey to sign up! The story covers the key points in a thorough Q&A with State Director, Justine Ceserano, and Communication Lead, Alescia Teel, who share best practices and lessons learned from the first enrollment period. The duo emphasized important information for NJ residents regarding enrollment. Justine reminds readers that “life-changing events … may make them eligible” for a special enrollment period. This may allow them to enroll sooner than Nov. 15, when the marketplace opens again.
