89,000 Ohioans Enrolled in Health Insurance Marketplace Since November 15

December 30, 2014

COLUMBUS, OH – Today, Get Covered America Ohio State Director Trey Daly released the following statement in response to U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ announcement that nearly 89,000 Ohioans have enrolled in coverage through the Health Insurance Marketplace since the beginning of open enrollment which started November 15, 2014.

“It’s great news that nearly 89,000 Ohioans have already taken action to get covered or stay covered through the Health Insurance Marketplace. These numbers reflect what we’ve been hearing on the ground – that Ohioans are excited and taking advantage of this opportunity to find quality, affordable health coverage. However, our work is far from over. We will continue to work double-time over the coming weeks to educate Ohioans on their health care options and help them take advantage of their options through the Affordable Care Act before the February 15 deadline.”

Open enrollment runs through, February, 15, 2015. Free enrollment assistance from trained experts is available, and Ohioans can visit the Get Covered Connector (https://connector.getcoveredamerica.org/widget/) to find local help and schedule an appointment.

Well Over Half a Million Floridians Got Covered During First Month of Second Open Enrollment Period

HHS announces today nearly 675,000 Floridians #GotCovered through the health insurance Marketplace since the beginning of open enrollment

MIAMI, FL – Nearly 6.5 million Americans — including 673,255 here in Florida — have enrolled in the health insurance Marketplace since open enrollment began on Nov. 15. These Floridians now have the peace of mind and security of health coverage, knowing that they’re not one broken bone or unexpected illness away from bankruptcy. And consumers who renewed their coverage before the Dec. 15 deadline will start off the New Year with seamless coverage and the right amount of financial help.

“During the first month since the Marketplace re-opened, more than half a million Floridians enrolled on the health insurance Marketplace as Florida leads the nation in enrollment on a Federally Facilitated Marketplace. The report released today by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services confirms what we’re seeing on the ground—that there is greater consumer interest in affordable health coverage and that currently-enrolled Floridians are successfully renewing coverage,” said Nicholas Duran, Enroll America’s Florida State Director. “By applying lessons learned during the first open enrollment period and leveraging new tools like the Get Covered Connector, Get Covered America has been able to help more Floridians than ever get covered and stay covered. We have a lot of work left to do before the Feb. 15 deadline, but this encouraging report will help propel our team through the final weeks of open enrollment.”

The availability of financial assistance in purchasing new coverage continues to play a significant role in Florida’s positive enrollment figures with 94 percent of all new sign-ups selecting a plan with financial assistance— a three percent increase since the first enrollment period. The Get Covered America campaign will continue reaching out to Floridians to help them enroll in coverage or renew existing coverage by the Feb. 15 deadline.

One Year Later: How Medicaid Expansion Has Helped Ohioans Get Covered

December 29, 2014

COLUMBUS, OH – January 1st marks the one year anniversary of Medicaid expansion in Ohio. Over the past year, more than 450,000 low- and moderate-income individuals and families in Ohio have secured health coverage thanks to the Affordable Care Act’s expansion of Medicaid and increased awareness of eligibility through ramped up outreach and enrollment efforts.

“We are happy to see that thousands of Ohioans have already benefited from Medicaid expansion after the first year,” said Get Covered America Ohio State Director Trey Daly. “Even though this is great news, we know there is still a lot of work to do to educate uninsured Ohioans about their health care options under the Affordable Care Act. That’s why we’re dedicated to continuing our outreach efforts in the Buckeye State to let people know about every opportunity to find quality, affordable health coverage through Medicaid or the Health Insurance Marketplace.”

Under the Affordable Care Act’s Medicaid expansion, adults under the age of 65 with incomes up to 138% of the Federal poverty level ($16,105 for a household of one or $32,913 for a household of four) are eligible for Medicaid in states that elect to participate. Individuals and families enrolled in Medicaid receive free- or low-cost coverage and care.

Just like plans on the Health Insurance Marketplace, Medicaid enrollees receive comprehensive coverage from private health insurance plans that cover services like hospital stays, doctor’s visits, preventive care, and prescription drugs.

Unlike private plans on the Marketplace that closes February, 15, 2015, enrollment in Medicaid is year round. To meet with a free, trained enrollment expert that can help with Medicaid enrollment, Ohioans can visit the Get Covered Connector:https://connector.getcoveredamerica.org/widget/.

Keeping Those Pearly Whites in Top Shape

December 18, 2014

If you’re looking into health insurance plans (and why wouldn’t you be?!), you might have some questions about dental coverage. Here’s what you need to know:

  1. Some health plans include dental coverage. You can see which plans cover dental care when you shop in the Marketplace.
  2. You might be able to find a stand-alone dental plan. With a stand-alone plan, you’ll have a separate monthly payment to make.
  3. In most areas, you must be purchasing a health insurance plan to also purchase a stand-alone dental plan.
  4. Benefits for adults and children may be different.
  5. If you qualify for financial help but don’t use it all on your health insurance plan, you can use it to buy a dental plan. (For example, if you qualify for $300 a month in financial help, and you sign up for a plan that’s $250 a month, you’ll have $50 a month to apply toward dental coverage.)

Have more questions about finding dental coverage? Remember: You can get free, local help.

How to Find a Doctor With Your New Plan

December 16, 2014

The good news is that there are new and affordable health insurance options available in the Marketplace. But these new options might leave you with a lot of questions about how to pick the right plan.

You might already have a doctor or hospital that you see when you need medical care. But not all doctors and hospitals are covered by every health insurance plan that’s available.

Each plan has what is called a provider network. A provider network is a group of doctors, hospitals, and other health care providers that have partnered with your health insurance plan. Seeing doctors that are part of your plan’s provider network can help keep your health care costs lower.

If a provider is not included in your plan (called an out-of-network provider), it will probably cost more to get health care services from them. In some situations you might have to pay all the costs by yourself.

So, how do you make sure your preferred doctor is covered by a plan you’re considering? Just take these 2 quick steps when you’re shopping in the Marketplace:

  1. You can always call the plan to confirm that a doctor is in-network. And the online provider directory will also list in-network providers (including those that speak languages other than English). Take a look and make sure your preferred doctor is listed.
  2. Because things can change, it’s best to call your preferred doctor to make sure that they take the specific insurance plan you’re looking at and are taking new patients.

Once you’ve found out if your doctor is covered, you can finish signing up for the plan of your choice!

If you have questions, don’t forget that you can get local help with your health insurance application.
