More Than 204,000 Arizonans #GotCovered in Second Open Enrollment Cycle
February 18, 2015
PHOENIX, AZ – The following is a statement from Get Covered America’s Arizona State director, Cheryl O’Donnell, regarding new data from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services indicating 204,187 Arizona consumers enrolled in health plans under the Affordable Care Act (ACA) during the second open enrollment period, ending February 15:
“The fact that more than 204,000 thousand Arizonans enrolled in health coverage through the Health Insurance Marketplace clearly demonstrates the need and desire for quality health plans in this state. People want coverage and they do seek it, whether on their own or with the help of an assister. These latest statistics – nationwide at 11.4 million – are a result of the hard work organizations across the country have been dedicating to help people get covered for more than two years. This is exciting and encouraging as we prepare for next year’s open enrollment season in the Fall.”
Of those who enrolled, 139,037 are from metro Phoenix, 31,612 from the Tucson area and the remainder from Greater Arizona. Combined with numbers from expanded Medicaid program enrollment through the Arizona Health Care Cost Containment System (AHCCCS), more than half a million Arizonans have benefited from the ACA.
Get Covered America’s outreach campaign, operating on the ground for two years, reached six million consumers across the United States to provide them with information and resources to help them get covered.
Meanwhile, Arizonans who were “in-line” to apply for coverage on the February 15 deadline have until Sunday, February 22 to complete the application process.
