8,000 Steps Toward Justice
February 3, 2014
Dr. King once said, “Of all the forms of inequality, injustice in health care is the most shocking and inhumane.” His words hit home now more than ever — and that’s why we chose MLK weekend to organize a weekend of action to get the word out about the new health insurance options.
Through events at local churches, community centers, and in neighborhoods from coast to coast, Get Covered America staff and volunteers had over 8,000 conversations with friends and neighbors about their new, affordable health care options.
Just let that sink in for a moment: 8,000 conversations in one weekend.
That’s no small task, and we couldn’t have done it without our wonderful volunteers. At over 260 events across the country — from Texas to Illinois, Georgia to Pennsylvania — more than 8,000 people learned about their new, affordable health insurance options, got help with their applications, and so much more.
Thanks to everyone who took time during the weekend to help us get the word out. Together, we will make Dr. King’s vision a reality.
If you weren’t able to participate, don’t worry. We have plenty more opportunities to get involved in the future! Hope to see you there.
