Big Success for MLK Weekend of Action
January 21, 2014
This weekend, a number of events around the state let people know about their new health insurance options. At parades, a marathon, door-to-door events and shopping malls, our team was out in force to share the news that Texans who need health coverage can get it.
Over 6 million Americans so far have enrolled in Marketplace or Medicaid coverage since October 1, despite the technical glitches that have slowed down the process. This is a great start, but we know that many more folks are eager to get health insurance. Most people don’t yet know about the financial assistance available. When they receive that information, they are excited to learn about their options and get enrolled.
We are working hard to spread the word and educate Texans about all their healthcare choices. With an almost-doubling of our field staff capacity this month, we are picking up the pace and getting the word out to communities all around the state.
More than 80% of uninsured Americans say they would sign up for an affordable health plan if they could. But 72% don’t know that they may qualify for financial assistance. The staff and volunteers with the Get Covered America campaign in Texas are dedicated to getting this critical information out and helping uninsured Texans take advantage of the benefits now available to them.
