Enroll America Supports World AIDS Day
December 1, 2015
December 1 marks World AIDS Day, which comes just one month after the beginning of the third open enrollment period of the Affordable Care Act. As we honor the lives cut short because of the AIDS epidemic, we also show our support to Texans living with the HIV virus and continue our fight for awareness and prevention through health education and expanded access to affordable, quality health insurance.
The Affordable Care Act (ACA) has guaranteed that those with HIV who were once dropped from or denied coverage can no longer be turned away. The law also made coverage truly affordable through the financial help that lower the costs of coverage. In fact, 85% of Texans who enrolled in the Marketplace receive financial assistance to make their plans more affordable.
And all qualifying plans must also cover ten essential benefits, including wellness care, including free HIV testing, prescription drugs, tests and services to manage chronic diseases. The good news is that you can have health insurance by the New Year if you sign up by December 15. If you miss this deadline, you’ll have until the end of January to sign up and avoid paying the fine for not having health coverage during 2016.
Texans can receive free, in-person assistance to find a plan that best meets their needs and budget. Go to www.getcoveredamerica.org/connector to make a free appointment near you before January 31!
