Enrollathon Weekend to Help Ohioans #GetCovered Before February 15 ACA Deadline
February 11, 2015
COLUMBUS, OH – With just four days remaining before the February 15 deadline to enroll through the Affordable Care Act’s Health Insurance Marketplace, Get Covered America is planning an “Enrollathon” weekend to help Ohioans enroll in health coverage. Working with partners and volunteers from across the state, Get Covered America will be participating in over 25 outreach and enrollment events over the weekend to make sure Ohioans know their health coverage options under the Affordable Care Act and get covered.
“Last year we saw a surge of interest from consumers around the deadline, and we expect to see the same again this year,” said Get Covered America Ohio State Director Trey Daly. “That’s why we’re ramping up our outreach and education efforts in the four days leading up to February 15. We will continue to connect Ohioans to enrollment assisters in their area to help them pick the plan that fits their needs and budget to ensure that as many people as possible get covered before the deadline.”
According to recent data released by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, more than 202,000 Ohioans have already signed up for private insurance through the Marketplace as of January 30. For the first time, the new data also included enrollment statistics for four major Ohio metropolitan areas. In the Cleveland-Elyria area, 41,837 Ohioans have enrolled; Columbus: 32,827; Cincinnati (including parts of OH and IN): 32,453; and Dayton: 12,082.
Financial assistance is available for most Ohioans to help pay for their premiums and make their plans truly affordable. During this enrollment period, 84% of Ohioans who have signed up on the Health Insurance Marketplace have received financial assistance.
Free, unbiased enrollment assistance is available locally throughout the state to help Ohioans understand their options and find the plan that is right for them. Ohioans who sign up for coverage by February 15, 2015 and maintain their coverage will avoid paying a fine and will have the peace of mind and financial security of health insurance. The fine in 2015 is $325 per adult in the family or 2% of household income, whichever is greater.
For low and moderate income Ohioans who are newly eligible under expanded Medicaid, there is no deadline to enroll, enrollment is year-round.
