CINCINNATI, OH – To recognize National Health Center Week – a week that begins August 10 dedicated to recognizing the important role community health centers – Get Covered America will partner with Crossroad Health Center to educate Cincinnatians on their new health care options under the Affordable Care Act. Crossroad Health Center, like so many community health centers across Ohio, provides access to quality, affordable care to local residents and acts as a trusted voice that helps Ohioans make their health care decisions.

Get Covered America staff and volunteers will be providing information about the Affordable Care Act and enrollment at Crossroad’s National Health Center Week events throughout the week. The events include a Health Fair on August 10; Lead Awareness and Children’s Vision Day on August 12; Adult Vision Day on August 13; and Women’s Health Day August 14. Attendees will learn about opportunities to get coverage now through Medicaid, CHIP, or a special enrollment period through the Health Insurance Marketplace and leave their contact information so staff and volunteers can follow up with them directly with enrollment information.

“Community health centers not only provide quality, affordable health care to local residents, but are also trusted voices in the community,” said Get Covered America Ohio State Director Trey Daly. “That’s why we’re happy to partner with Crossroad Health Center to recognize National Health Center Week and spread the word to Cincinnatians about their new health care options under the Affordable Care Act.”

Although open enrollment for private insurance doesn’t reopen until November 15, Medicaid and Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) enrollment is year-round. Additionally, many Ohioans may be eligible to enroll in coverage before November through a special enrollment period if they’ve had a qualifying life event like getting married, having a child, or losing other health coverage.
