Get Covered America Statement on Ohio Navigator Grant Announcement
September 2, 2015
COLUMBUS, OHIO – Today, Get Covered America Ohio State Director Trey Daly released the following statement in response to U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) announcing Ohio will receive $2,274,392 in grants over the next three years for Ohio organizations to provide free, in-person Affordable Care Act enrollment assistance.
“Over the first two open enrollment periods, we’ve seen firsthand the critical role Navigators and other in-person assisters have played in helping hundreds of thousands of Ohioans enroll in quality, affordable health coverage. In fact, those who received help from a navigator or in-person assister were about twice as likely to successfully enroll in coverage.
Today’s announcement shows a strong commitment to ensuring every Ohioan can get the help they need to enroll in quality, affordable health coverage. We look forward to continuing to work closely with the Ohio Navigators to ensure that more Ohioans understand their health care options under the Affordable Care Act and get covered and stay covered this upcoming open enrollment period.”
The Ohio Navigator grant recipients are the Ohio Association of Foodbanks and HRS/Erase, Inc.
Get Covered America has partnered with Navigators during the first two enrollment periods for outreach and enrollment efforts across the state. Last year, Get Covered America worked with the Ohio Association of Foodbanks to launch the Get Covered Connector, an online scheduling tool where people can sign up for enrollment appointments with Navigators and other in-person assisters. The tool will again be available this enrollment period, which runs from November 1, 2015 to January 31, 2016. Ohioans can also visit connector.getcoveredamerica.org or call 1-800-648-1176 to schedule an appointment with enrollment assister.
Get Covered America is also working with Southeast, Inc., a Navigator organization through the Ohio Association of Foodbanks consortium, to recruit and train volunteer Certified Application Counselors (CACs) across the state to provide more Ohioans with these important services. If people are interested in learning about how to become a volunteer Certified Application Counselor, they can contact a Get Covered America Ohio office: Columbus: 614-636-0385, Cleveland: 216-314-2392, and Cincinnati: 513-667-2304.
