FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Update Important Documentation

August 14, 2014

ICYMI yesterday, Get Covered America sent the press releases below to inform Arizonans about forthcoming notices they may receive regarding data matching discrepancies. A citizenship or immigration data matching issue can happen when the information reported in a consumer’s application, such as a Social Security or Permanent Resident Card number, is incomplete or different than the information the government has on file.  A data inconsistency does not necessarily mean there is a problem with an individual’s eligibility for enrollment; it means that additional information is needed to verify the information provided in an application. However, if these supporting documents are not received, health insurance plans will be terminated in order to ensure program integrity and protect taxpayer dollars.

Feds Remind Some Arizonans to Update Important Documentation on Health Coverage Applications

Critical notice affects more than 300,000 Health Insurance Marketplace Consumers Nationally

Phoenix, AZ – More than 6,000 Arizonans who purchased plans through the Health Insurance Marketplace need to provide updated information about their citizenship or immigration status to keep their coverage in effect.

This week, The U. S. Department of Health and Human send some 310,000 notifications to individuals nationwide regarding discrepancies in citizenship or immigration data, 6,600 of those here in Arizona. These discrepancies include “data matching issues” reported on consumers’ applications, such as a missing or incorrect digit in a social security or permanent resident card number. The deadline to submit correct information is fast approaching, as consumers have only until September 5 to do so or risk losing their coverage by September 30.

Consumers have been sent reminders through email, postal mail service or by phone.

“It is absolutely critical that consumers who purchased a plan through the Health Insurance Marketplace, especially those who provided immigration documentation during the application process, check their mailboxes, phone messages and email in the coming days for this important notice,” said Cheryl O’Donnell, Arizona state director for Get Covered America. “If you receive one, act quickly to correct the data so there is no interruption in your health coverage.”

The discrepancies affect about 5% of the 120,000 Arizonans who purchased coverage through the Marketplace during the six month open enrollment period ending March 31 of this year.
