Growing Number of Organizations Voice Support for Get Covered America Campaign
WASHINGTON – The ‘Get Covered America’ campaign, launched this week by Enroll America, has garnered a wide range of support from a diverse coalition of organizations interested in ensuring that the millions of eligible Americans participate in the new health insurance marketplaces opening this fall.
Below are a few of the statements of support for the Get Covered America campaign released by organizations this week:
“The health care reform law means that as many as 17 million currently uninsured young adults age 18 to 34 could gain access to more comprehensive, affordable health insurance coverage through the expansion to Medicaid and new subsidies to purchase insurance. Already, more than 3.1 million young adults have gotten covered thanks to a provision of the law that took effect letting young people stay on their parent’s plan until age 26. In 2014, the 16% of young Americans with pre-existing conditions can no longer be denied coverage; insured individuals will have access to key preventive services at no additional cost; and no and low-cost quality coverage will become a reality for millions. We’re excited to partner with Enroll America and partners across the country to make sure that this generation knows their new options and how to get covered!” – Aaron Smith, Co-Founder and Executive Director of Young Invincibles
“As the leading women’s health care provider and advocate, Planned Parenthood Federation of America knows firsthand that the Affordable Care Act is a historic leap forward for women’s access to quality, affordable health care – but only if women are equipped to take advantage of its benefits. To educate the nearly 12 million newly eligible, uninsured women of reproductive age about their new health care options, we will be launching a national awareness campaign this summer, and we are excited to be working with Enroll America and the Get Covered America Campaign as partners in the effort to make the promise of the Affordable Care Act a reality.” – Cecile Richards, President, Planned Parenthood
Small Business Majority:
“The high cost of health insurance has made it difficult, if not impossible, for many small business owners to afford health insurance for themselves and their employees. State health insurance exchanges being created under the Affordable Care Act will be a one-stop shop where small business owners can find the right health insurance policy for their needs and budget. It will enable them, for the first time, to band together and leverage their buying power, giving them the kind of clout large businesses currently enjoy. It’s no surprise our opinion polling found two-thirds of small business owners would use or consider using their state exchange. Given these benefits, we’re excited to support Enroll America and their Get Covered America campaign to get as many small businesses enrolled in the exchanges as possible, and help make accessible, affordable insurance a reality for our country’s primary job creators.” Rhett Buttle, Vice President for External Relations, Small Business Majority
“At MomsRising, we know that moms are the primary decision makers about their families’ health care. They’re also crucial messengers who readily share information with other moms and in their communities. This summer, we will be working with Enroll America and other key organizations to share information about health care coverage with moms across the country, so that they and others in their communities can take advantage of this opportunity to access quality, affordable health care for themselves and their families.” – Kristin Rowe-Finkbeiner, Executive Director & CEO/Co-founder, MomsRising
Doctors for America:
“As Doctors for America, we believe in an America where everyone has quality, affordable health care and where doctors and the public work together to build a health care system that works for all. We took a critical first step toward this vision when we passed the Affordable Care Act. We must now ensure that the millions of Americans who stand to benefit know about the new health care options coming their way. That’s why we’re excited to be working with Enroll America and the Get Covered America campaign to help engage and inform the uninsured about the health care benefits becoming available this October.” Dr. Alice Chen, Executive Director, Doctors for America
The Association for Community Affiliated Plans:
“The Affordable Care Act is the most significant effort since the enactment of Medicare and Medicaid to squarely address the significant challenge of maximizing limited health care resources to deliver care as efficiently and effectively as possible to those who need it most. That’s why we’re proud to work with Enroll America and the Get Covered America campaign to get the word out that change—change for the better—is coming to our health care system.” – Meg Murray, CEO, Association for Community Affiliated Plans
The National Association of Public Hospitals and Health Systems:
“Our member hospitals and health systems provide significant volumes of care to the uninsured and other vulnerable people and have considerable experience matching hard-to-reach populations with available health care coverage opportunities. Our patients routinely face special challenges to enrollment – from language and cultural barriers to low health literacy to a lack of transportation. We have been pleased to provide to Enroll America our expertise in helping patients overcome these challenges and look forward to continuing this important work.”
Voices for America’s Children:
“Voices for America’s Children, the nation’s largest network of multi-issue child advocacy organizations, will not rest until every child in this country has access to quality, affordable health care. The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act is an important step and appropriate implementation of law is critical toward achieving this goal. Leading up to and throughout the open enrollment process, the Voices network is focused on educating families and connecting uninsured children to health coverage as quickly and effectively as possible. Voices is excited to be working in partnership with Enroll America and the Get Covered America Campaign in this effort.” – Stephanie McGencey, President and CEO, Voices for America’s Children
The National Council for Behavioral Health:
“As the national voice of community behavioral health centers, the National Council for Behavioral Health and its 2000+ member organizations know too well about the unmet needs of Americans living with mental illnesses and addictions. For decades, millions have gone without needed care because of lack of access and other barriers. Passage of the Affordable Care Act took an enormous step toward bringing many of these individuals out of the shadows and into a care system that can help them lead healthy, productive lives in the community. Now, we must make sure they know about their new healthcare options. Our work with Enroll America and the Get Covered America campaign will do exactly that: engage and educate the people who stand to benefit the most ― some of whom represent the nation’s most vulnerable ― about the vast possibilities available to them beginning in October.” – Linda Rosenberg, President & CEO, National Council for Behavioral Health
SEIU Nurse Alliance:
“SEIU members marched and advocated for more than twenty five years so everyone in America would have access to quality, affordable healthcare and our patients would come first before insurance company profits. Thanks to the Affordable Care Act, we are seeing this dream become reality for our patients, our communities and our families.
“More than 100 million Americans have gained greater health and financial security thanks to the law, including: 3.1 million young people have access to insurance under their parent’s healthcare plans; 6.3 million seniors are saving on prescription drugs; and 71 million hard working Americans have fully covered preventive care, including cancer screenings, well child visits and contraception.
“It will take all of us working together to make sure Americans realize the full benefits of the law, and Enroll America’s “Get Covered” campaign will ensure that Americans are informed and empowered to make the best healthcare decisions for themselves and their families.” – Dian Palmer, RN, Chair, SEIU Nurse Alliance
Benefits Data Trust:
“Benefits Data Trust believes all vulnerable individuals and families across the country should be able to secure the benefits that enable them to achieve stability. Right now 46 million Americans struggle to afford basic necessities such as food, shelter, and medical expenses. Fortunately, The Affordable Care Act will help millions of individuals attain much-needed healthcare. Benefits Data Trust is excited to partner with Enroll America and the Get Covered America Campaign to outreach and assist under-served people in accessing the healthcare they need.” –Ginger Zielinskie, Executive Director, Benefits Data Trust
“Universal, affordable, quality health care has been a goal of our most visionary leaders for more than a century. Medicare, Medicaid and the CHIP program were essential steps toward this goal, and now with the Affordable Care Act we have made the greatest stride forward. It is the vital mission of Enroll America and their Get Covered America campaign to ensure that all American families find their personal path to enrollment in quality health coverage.” – Ron Pollack, Founding Executive Director, Families USA

This week, Enroll America – the nation’s leading health care enrollment coalition – launched the “Get Covered America” campaign to start a just-the-facts conversation with consumers about the benefits of health insurance coverage and the new health care options that will be made available under the Affordable Care Act starting October 1st.
Get Covered America will have staff and volunteers on the ground in communities around the country engaging people directly by going door-to-door, talking to consumers at places like grocery stores and community centers, and working with local organizations – like community health centers, places of worship, and schools – to reach their constituents. A central component of the Get Covered America effort will be engagement with young people, key minority communities, and women. The campaign will work closely with its partners to ensure that every community knows and understands what the new law will mean for them.
