WASHINGTON, DC – As part of the Get Covered America campaign’s final outreach blitz, a colorful, 30-passenger “Countdown to Get Covered” bus will tour Texas and Ohio for seven days, rallying volunteers and encouraging uninsured consumers to enroll in health coverage before the March 31 deadline under the Affordable Care Act. Get Covered America President Anne Filipic will lead the bus tour, which begins on March 11 and concludes on March 19, as it stops at enrollment fairs, volunteer phone banks, community events, college campuses, and even the SXSW music festival and the site of NCAA Tournament games to raise awareness of the financial assistance and quality insurance available through the Health Insurance Marketplace. She will be joined on the tour by elected officials, faith leaders, and community partners, including state representatives from across Texas, Senator Sherrod Brown from Ohio, and partners like Planned Parenthood for America, the Association for the Advancement of Mexican Americans, and Neighborhood Centers Inc, the largest charitable organization in Texas.
“With less than a month left to enroll, our hundreds of staff and tens of thousands of volunteers are out in full force making sure their friends and neighbors know about the new health care options and the financial assistance that’s available through the Health Insurance Marketplace,” said Anne Filipic, President of Enroll America, which runs the Get Covered America campaign. “I’m excited to hop aboard the ‘Countdown to Get Covered’ bus to join the effort on the ground and meet consumers where they are with the information they need to get covered before the March 31 deadline.”
Anne Filipic will ride alongside elected officials, faith leaders, community partners, organizers, and volunteers, as the “Countdown to Get Covered” bus stops in 10 key cities throughout Texas and Ohio. The bus tour kicks off in Texas on March 11 in Houston, before hitting the road to visit a meeting of community partners in McAllen and San Antonio. Next, volunteers will jump on the Get Covered Bus in Austin to join a RockEnroll street canvass at the SXSW festival, followed by a stop in Waco before wrapping up the Texas leg at a Dallas shopping mall to spread the word about the tax credits that are available to purchase coverage.
On March 17, the bus tour will pick back up in Ohio with a Latino outreach event in Cincinnati, a visit to Dayton at the site of the First Four “March Madness” NCAA basketball games, and a stop in Columbus for an event with restaurant workers. During the tour, the bus will make a stop at a community college mass enrollment event, and end the tour at a “Women Get Covered” educational session in Cleveland on March 19.
The bus tour is a part of Get Covered America’s March outreach blitz that will mobilize thousands of organizations and tens of thousands of volunteers to reach out to uninsured consumers before the March 31 deadline to enroll in health insurance coverage under the Affordable Care Act. The all-out push will employ grassroots outreach, an aggressive advertising campaign, and events targeted to youth, women, Latinos, and African-Americans to reach uninsured consumers where they are with the facts they need to get covered. Enroll America staff and volunteers will organize more than 3,000 events throughout the month of March, and during the last two weeks of March, will host daily enrollment events in all of the major cities in Enroll America’s 11 staffed states to make sure that consumers have access to in-person enrollment assistance.
