Enroll America Statement on the Final Numbers from the First Open Enrollment Period

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Anne Filipic, president of Enroll America, issued the following statement on the final Health Insurance Marketplace enrollment numbers:

“This historic first open enrollment period has drawn to a close, and we’re thrilled that more than 8 million Americans have enrolled in quality private plans through the Health Insurance Marketplace, in addition to the millions more who have found coverage through Medicaid and CHIP. When technical issues troubled the website during the launch, our vast coalition of staff, volunteers, and partners continued to work tirelessly, eventually reaching more than 5 million consumers across the country with information about their new coverage options. Throughout the entire enrollment period, we planned for a surge of interest as the deadline approached, and even after March 31, our team continued their efforts, calling tens of thousands of consumers over the last two weeks to encourage them to take advantage of the grace period. The results speak for themselves: millions of Americans now have the affordable, quality health insurance they and their families deserve.”

Open enrollment has officially ended, but Enroll America’s work is far from over. We will maintain over two hundred staff in our offices across the country, continuing to reach out to consumers who are eligible for Medicaid or for special Marketplace enrollment periods, like those who lose health coverage or experience a change in family status. Earlier this month, we released early observations from the first open enrollment period based on the vast data collected through our grassroots, digital, and partnership outreach campaign. In June, we will host the State of Enrollment: Getting America Covered National Conference to bring together national, regional, and local enrollment leaders to take a critical look at what worked, what obstacles consumers continue to face, and how to ensure the second open enrollment period coming in November is even more successful than the first.”
