Ah, summer. Fireflies, fireworks, family, friends, and … health insurance?
Summer is a time for fun and sun, but you should also know about your new health insurance options. Did you know that some people can get free or low-cost coverage now?
That’s right! Here are some things you should know:
What is it? Medicaid and the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP), offer free or low-cost health insurance (but remember that your state’s Medicaid or CHIP program may go by a different name).
How do I know if I qualify? It depends on how much money you make, the size of your family, and where you live. Even if you didn’t qualify in the past, you or your child might now because of the new rules. Remember that your child could qualify for Medicaid or CHIP even if you don’t.
How can I sign up? You can start by filling out an application for health coverage through the Health Insurance Marketplace for your state. From there, you can find out what programs you qualify for.
When can I apply? You can apply for Medicaid and/or CHIP at any time during the year.
What services are covered? Both programs are provided for free, or at low cost, and cover important services like doctor visits, prescription drugs, preventive care, and more.
While you’re enjoying everything the summer has to offer, why not give yourself the peace of mind and financial security that comes with getting covered? Click here to find out of you or members of your family qualify for Medicaid or CHIP in your state!
