Wham, Scam, No Thank You, Ma’am
July 15, 2013
Get Covered America is nonprofit, nonpartisan grassroots campaign focused on raising public awareness about these upcoming changes in the health care law. What our staff and volunteers care about is connecting you to the right resources so you can understand all of your health care options, and choose a health insurance plan that’s right for you. All of the details are still being determined, and every state will operate differently, but here’s what we know right now:
- Currently, the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has a website and toll-free hotline that can provide basic information in multiple languages at healthcare.gov
- Soon, there will be HHS-approved community-based organizations in every state in the country, which can help you understand the health insurance options available at your state’s Exchange or Marketplace. These trusted helpers may be called Navigators, In-Person Assisters (IPA), or Certified Application Counselors (CAC). No matter what their title, they will all be trained to give you impartial information about the full range of affordable health coverage options. As soon as these certified consumer assistance options are up and running, a full list of contact information for your state’s assisters will be available on healthcare.gov or through their toll-free hotline.
- Get Covered America’s website is still being built, and soon will be able to give you more information as it becomes available. Meanwhile, if there’s a local field team in your state, come to one of our events. (Check out our event map!)
But anytime there’s something new on the market, there are going to be scammers. So the the latest news about “Obamacare Scammers” trying to take advantage of what everyday Americans might not know about the Affordable Care Act, and turn a profit off them comes as little surprise. But stick with us, kids: Get Covered America’s got your back.
Rest assured, whether you sign up on our website, or meet a staffer or volunteer in your neighborhood, no one will ever try to sell you a bogus plan, or ask you for credit card information. That’s not how we roll. Some simple advice for now? Hold onto your wallets and pocketbooks! There’s still plenty of time for you to get covered by January 1, 2014. And we’ll get you the info you need to get you there.
The bottom line: Get Covered America is here to help—no strings attached.
